When do engine mounts start to age?

The engine mount is an important part of the connection between the engine and the body. Its main function is to install the engine on the frame, isolate the vibration generated when the engine is running, and play a role in alleviating the vibration. The topic of today’s article is about the aging performance of engine mount.

  • When the engine is idling, you will obviously feel the shaking of the steering wheel;

  • You will also feel the shaking when sitting on the seat.But the speed is not fluctuating and the engine shaking can be sensed;

  • When the driving condition is in rapid refueling or rapid deceleration There will be abnormal noises when;

  • Automatic transmission vehicles, when engaged in gear or reverse gear, you will see a sense of mechanical shock;

  • Abnormal noises will be emitted from the chassis when the vehicle starts and brakes.

The reason why the above phenomenon occurs after the engine mount is aging is because when the engine is running, a certain vibration frequency will be generated, and this vibration frequency will disappear after being buffered and absorbed by the engine foot rubber. When the rubber inside the engine mount pad is aging or the hydraulic oil leaks, it cannot be cushioned. This vibration is directly transmitted to the frame and we will perceive it.

The most intuitive way to judge whether it is aging is definitely to lift the vehicle directly to check whether the rubber parts are damaged and whether the hydraulic oil leaks. Generally, the aging of the engine mount will appear after the average vehicle has traveled 100,000 kilometers, and when the above performance occurs, if there is no change in the engine speed, the gearbox is operating normally. It can be considered that it has aged.
